Course Description

Between 1920 and 2000, there have been monumental debates in America on the most fundamental of questions: Who is "American"? What should the national priorities be? What role should the federal government play in addressing them? Which groups should be able, or even allowed, to take part in defining America?

In this course, we will examine the many ways Americans struggled with these questions as their nation evolved.
